7 Shows, 7 Countries, 7 Days, 13 Outfits
Rihanna
kicked off her highly-anticipated 777 tour (7 concerts in 7 countries
over 7 days) in Mexico City. Flying around the globe on a plane full of over 150 exhausted and mutinous press and fans
(who later became the tour's biggest story--just search #RihannaPlane
on Twitter!), she’s performed a whirlwind of concerts and plowed through
outfits at lightening speed. Here, we break down Mexico City, Toronto,
Stockholm, Berlin, London, Paris, and New York.
Rihanna
upon boarding #RihannaPlane - Generally, public displays of sweatpants
don't get my endorsement, but fitted, monochrome black ones styled with
neon-detailed sneakers and lots of sparkly, substantial jewelry get a
pass.
An exhausted, semi-apologetic
Rihanna touches down in NYC and attends her "Unapologetic" record
release party - An unapologetically baggy leather top and three-quarter
pants clash with an unapologetically ugly beret and redeemable
ankle-strap pumps at the last and final stop on her 777 Tour.
Day 1: Rihanna on stage in
Mexico City - Mel Ottenberg, Rihanna's tour stylist, told Vogue.com that
this "Hood Glamour" look consisted of "boys' thug clothes mixed with
diamonds and pulled-together hair and makeup." An Alexander Wang men's
leather baseball shirt gets the Rihanna treatment when paired with an
Adam Selman custom leather bra. Opening Ceremony x Komakino bermuda
shorts and Balcenciaga booties anchored her lower half. And lets talk
about those DIAMONDS! We spotted: one 1870s estate diamond necklace, a
pair of Neil Lane diamond earrings, a handful of Neil Lane diamond
rings, and, to round it out, a throwback Versace bangle from the 1980s.
Day 2: All hail Rihanna in Toronto - Notoriously modest Rihanna
(just kidding, this girl shows more skin than we know what to do with!)
bares freakishly toned abs in a white bra and Shaun Samson shirt and
shorts. Bangin' custom Manolo Blahniks, pop art Cast Eyewear sunglasses,
and the same exact multi-tasking diamonds from the Mexico City show
complete the ensemble.
Day 3: Rihanna performing in
Stockholm - Prisoner references were already abound on Day 3 of the 777
tour, as practically every single journalist on the plane blamed their
captor, Rihanna, for ongoing airport and bus delays. On stage and hours
late to her show, RiRi temporarily charmed in her stylist's own Carhartt
jacket over a Wolford bodysuit with American Apparel shorts, Tom Ford
stilettos, a vintage Chanel necklace, and vintage Depuis 1824
sunglasses.
Day 4: Rihanna boogies in Berlin - Like all
dominatrix-slash-mad-scientists blinded by stage light, Rihanna styled
her transparent Love Leather mesh top, Adam Selman hot pants, and
thigh-high leather boots with an oversized lab coat from KTZ and cat-eye
sunglasses from Tom Ford.
Day 5: Rihanna on stage in
London (again) - The most feminine look of the week award goes to… this
one! Our girl was gorgeous in a Happy Ashley printed top and pants, What
Katie Did bra, custom Manolos, and loads of vintage Versace and Chanel
jewelry.
Day 6: Rihanna rocks Paris - For
her Parisian performance, Rihanna mixed a Givenchy menswear t-shirt
with suede Givenchy thigh-high boots. Très jolie makeup and hair rounded
out le look.
Rihanna makes her way to her NYC
show - Bundled against the cold, RiRi is ever-glamourous in a leather
hat, gigantic diamond studs, Tom Ford shades, loads of rings and matte
red lips.
Day 7 - Sleepy Rihanna forgoes pants in NYC - Having arrived (AT
LAST!) at her final destination, Rihanna knocked it out of the park
(ha!) in only a baseball jersey and stacked-heel sneakers. End scene.
Rihanna rides the elevator to
her after party in Stockholm - This outfit reminds me of when my husband
will sometimes ask facetiously if what I'm wearing isn't really a dress
but perhaps just a shirt. In Rihanna's case, this actually IS just a
t-shirt -- a super-short albeit ultra-cool camouflage-print one with the
aforementioned Carhartt jacket over it, a sideways all-black cap atop
her side-swept hair, and her trusty Manolos on her feet.
Rihanna deplanes in London -
Sweatpants again! THE HORROR! Kidding; from what I've read about
#RihannaPlane thus far, one needed to be ready for sleep at a moment's
notice (and sometimes a moment was all you got), so sweatpants it is.
Bonus points for clever display of Union Jack and fresh color block
puffer.
Rihanna prepares for first of
two London shows - NaNa saved the cheeky look for London, appropriately,
turning up in a Raf Simons cobalt coat and white collared shirt layered
under a Spring 2013 Acne top and pants. Most of the #RihannaPlane 150
opted to sleep through this performance.
